Renovation in Israel | Some common countertop materials

Today we are going to see what options we have in Israel for the kitchen countertop. – literary: mishtah avoda lamitbah, but commonly the word used is "shaish" that means marble.

The word shaish is used for every kind of material, even if it's not a real marble.

The most common material in Israel is Cesar Stone. Even keisar.

This is an Engineered stone composed of about 93% of quartz particles aggregates with pigments and polymer resins. It is available in a large range of colors and has a nonporous surface that resists scratches.

Corian: is an Acrylic material made from a blend of natural materials and acrylic polymers. They are highly resilient to stains but sensitive to high heat, easy to clean and maintain and non-porous. These counters do not need to be sealed like natural stones. Surface can be severely damaged by sharp knives but Scratches can easily be repaired with light sanding. Corian can also be shaped, which means you can integrate a sink with the counter top.

Gres porcelain stoneware – In Hebrew Granit porzelan .

Is quite new in Israel, it's a very durable material, resistant to high temperatures, even the hottest pans, resistant to UV rays and atmospheric stress; scratch-resistant; The color does not change and it is completely waterproof, hygienic and easy to clean. This material has a wide range of customization: from a single color to woodtexture, or marble and metal look.

Natural stones: are nice and has the beauty of natural materials.

The most used stones are marble and granite.

Marble is a very beautiful stone but it is vulnerable to staining agents (like wine, and oil). When this happens, it's difficult to reverse, so sealing the surface upon installation is essential to help prevent damage. Unfortunately, you'll need to repeat the sealing every six months if you're a frequent cook.

Granite: it is harder than marble which makes it more stain, scratch and heat resistant. Granite is a porous material. Most fabricators will apply a sealer to granite countertops before they are installed, which will protect them from absorbing liquids too quickly.

In general, darker granites are very dense and sometimes don’t even require a sealer. Granite is very durable and will last a lifetime!

But it's not cheap! Each slab is different from the other, so I suggest you to choose the one you love, otherwise you will not have control over what the end product will look like
